Meaning

La canzone è una lettera di rimorso e gratitudine rivolta a una persona amata che non c’è più, probabilmente dopo la sua morte. Il tono è intimo, dolente e molto contemplativo: il narratore ripercorre gesti quotidiani e piccoli dettagli domestici per mostrare quanto quell’amore fosse presente, silenzioso e dato quasi per scontato. Il ritornello "I owe you a lifetime" esprime l’idea che nessun singolo gesto possa ripagare tutto l’affetto ricevuto: il debito emotivo è infinito perché arrivano troppo tardi la consapevolezza e il pentimento.
